Greater Poland
The region of Greater Poland (Voivodeship Wielkopolska) encompasses much of western Poland and the region is regarded as the birthplace of the Polish state. Visitors here will discover a vast amount of evidence chronicling the country's 1000-year history. Wielkopolska is Poland’s second largest and most populous Voivodeship with around 3.4 million inhabitants and a population density of 113 inhabitants per square kilometer. Its capital city Poznań has a charming old market square and numerous historic buildings set in a lively urban atmosphere. The city of Gniezno to the west was Poland’s first capital and it attracts visitors due to its rich history and magnificent cathedral. The lake region of Wielkopolska offers pure relaxation.
