Saxony
Saxony is located in eastern Germany and borders the Polish Voivodeships of Lower Silesia and Lubusz to the east. Saxony is internationally accessible via Dresden and Leipzig/Halle’s airports as well as its efficient rail, bus, and motorway connections.
The baroque state capital of Dresden is its economic and cultural centre alongside Leipzig. The industrial revolution came early to this region and industrial culture today remains an essential part of Saxony's identity. Even today, historic industrial buildings in almost every Saxon city stand testament to this era. Culturally, the region has several large concert halls and opera houses, such as the Gewandhaus in Leipzig or the Semperoper in Dresden. There are also many museums that rare and valuable collections, such as the Grünes Gewölbe in Dresden, the Chemnitz Art Collection, or the Silesian Museum in Görlitz. For outdoor and climbing enthusiasts, mountains of Saxon Switzerland are particularly interesting. Its Sandstone Mountains near the Elbe and the Saxon Switzerland National Park attract visitors from around the globe, and the Ore Mountains also have a long tradition as a winter sporting destination.
Saxony has 76 hospitals, including two university hospitals in Leipzig and Dresden.
